Italian Hotel - Search for a star - 2018
A downloadable asset pack
My interpretation of the Grads in Games, search for a sar 2018 brief. A colorful hotel room set in a quiet corner of Italy, with guests too occupied in exploring the city to clean up.
Inspired by the 3D and texture direction of Overwatch, with requisite post fx performed in engine to finalize the colour palette and balance of the game. Built with 3DS Max, Zbrush, textured with a combination of Substance Painter and Photoshop CC2018.

When the conditions for this round of the competition was released close to 3 months ago, winter was already here and this would serve as a catalyst for what I was going to create. I say this as at that point in time, it was cold, dark and generally miserable outside of my workspace, and I thus wanted to step into the opposite direction and wanted to create a scene that would convey light, warmth and an intimate tone, in stark contrast to the outside world and my previous round 1 piece, which embodied all of these former elements. In order to convey all of this, a suitable artistic style (both 2D and 3D) would be required, as well as a more elaborate interpretation of the 4 basic examples given to us in the documentation. However the 4th (Hotel Lobby scene containing assets in a colourful south American Theme), stood out to me as encompassing mostly everything I wanted to create thematically. Thus I got to work researching a suitable style and more specific subject matter that would allow for a degree of flexibility, but not straying too far from these core ideas.
I am very happy with this scene, as an exercise in handpainted work, emulating another game, I think this is rather close and a good benchmark for further work. I would like to decrease my textures used and their respective sizes, but this will come with time as I learn what I can and cannot paint at certain resolutions.
